Recently, the Weiyuan County Market Supervision Bureau, in conjunction with the “Spring Thunder Action 2021” and the law enforcement action for epidemic prevention and control of cold chain logistics, carried out special inspections on the application of commodity barcodes in key shopping malls and supermarkets in the county to standardize Commodity barcode management to promote the informationization of commodity circulation.

This special action focuses on 13 categories of products including food, alcohol, cosmetics, health care products and children’s toys operated by large shopping malls and supermarkets in the county. Law enforcement officers scan the commodity barcode on the spot to conduct a preliminary inspection, using a combination of verification by the China Article Numbering Center, focusing on checking whether the labeling of the commodity barcode conforms to the national standards, whether there is the use of unregistered commodity barcodes, counterfeiting other people’s commodity barcodes or When using the product barcode that has been cancelled, is there any phenomenon such as transferring or assigning the barcode to others, using expired barcodes, using non-product barcodes, etc.?

Up to now, a total of 23 shopping malls and supermarkets have been inspected, and more than 1,320 commodity barcodes have been scanned. From the inspection situation, the application of commodity barcodes in the jurisdiction is generally standardized, and the identity of commodities can be traced. This special inspection has further increased the importance of merchants to commodity barcodes, which is conducive to standardizing the management of commodity purchases and sales in the circulation field, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of consumers, and maintaining a fair and competitive market environment.
